The Nights Embrace

By Amber Platel

As Night opened her velvety wings

I was bought in and consumed-

By the dark which left me breathless and scared

But comforted by the Moon.

The Moons warm light shined on me,

As his friendly glare shone through-

The Nights arms: strong and hardened

But weakened as light grew.

Light wasn’t just Moon unaccompanied,

But Moon and hundreds of Stars.

Each shining bright and brawny,

From Venus to Pluto and Mars.

My eyes settled on Sky,

And its beauty became quite clear.

Constellations painting pictures,

Telling stories of yonder years.

A soft breeze blew past me,

Making leaves dance and stir.

It whistled and hummed gently,

Singing songs without any words.

And suddenly Night was peaceful.

Powerful but not a threat.

Consuming but with tranquillity-

Shes a creature who never rests.

Her velvety wings did draw me in,

But with hands not tooth and claw.

Embracing me in a gentle hug,

Allowing my fear to thaw.

And I thanked Night for having me,

And Moon for helping me stay-

And Stars for telling their stories,

And Sky for being their bay.

But I am not a creature belonging to Night,

Just an admirer- I suppose.

Of her power and her beauty,

And of all the things she knows.
